Analyzing a Blog
Bunkmonkee
The last few weeks, I have been looking at different blogs on globeofblogs.com. Not many of the blogs are of any interest to me and the ones that are, I have trouble writing about. I'm not much of a fan of someone else's random thoughts and personal experiences, but a few days ago, I came across a blog called Bunkmonkee. To my surprise, I found this man's rants quite humorous and the more I read, the more "drawn in" I became.
The author of this blog tends to keep himself anonymous. Most of the blog entries, such as, “Crotch Home Improvement”, “Smurfy asexual reproduction” and, my personal favorite, “5 quick ways to tell if your buddy is too drunk to drive”, are geared mostly toward men, which makes me assume that the author is a man himself (Bunkmonkee.com). These entries are mainly just random rants about certain topics that the author has heard about somewhere.
There are many entries that lead me to assumptions on his beliefs, political stance and overall personality. In the entry “The bible of gay marriage”, the author makes it clear that he isn’t really religious. He even states that he isn’t religious, “No! I am not religious either. I don't care either way” (Bunkmonkee.com, page1). When talking about the recent election, the author makes it clear that he does not take political sides, he just voices his opinions about each side “I reserve my right to not vote for anyone” (Bunkmonkee.com, McCain). Through his many rants I find that the author is a man who really just doesn’t care what people think. I like that he speaks his mind and doesn’t worry about what others may think about the things he may say. Because this blog is just filled with rants, the author really has no reason to be dishonest, and I find quite a lot of honesty in his entries.
Because the author’s blogs may contain some crude humor, as in the blogs “Paris Hilton’s Mom” and “Wal-Mart, you’ve got ugly”, and the many South Park pictures and videos, I do not believe that the author intended for older women, or women in general to read his entries. I personally find some of his crud jokes and opinions to be hilarious. The author seems to make the assumption that his readers tend to be male and tend to make the same stupid mistakes that he does. There are quite a few blog entries that are advice on “What not to do”. Some of these entries include, “5 quick ways to tell if your buddy is too drunk to drive”, “What not to do while drinking”, and “Crotch Home Improvement” (Bunkmonkee.com, Beer Me).
This blog obviously does a good job appealing to people; it caught my attention. On the main page of the blog, there is a cute little dancing monkey, which caught my eye. At first I thought this was just another one of those girly bitchy blogs, but then I read the first entry, “My Pooping Old Dog”, obviously not girly (Bunkmonkee.com, page1). The blog also contains many hilarious South Park and Family Guy videos that actually relate to his entries somehow.
The videos, pictures and his funny comments on topics make this blog one of the only blogs I found to be appealing. There are others that have voiced their opinions about his blog that feel the same way I do about his opinions. Though his opinions may not always be the smartest, nicest, or even best opinions, they are by far the funniest and most appealing opinions I have read in a blog.

Public Spheres
Public spheres I have seen:
- The University Center
- The News (Fox, CNN, etc.)
- Right to Life of Southern Indiana
- Churches
- Wal*Mart
- The Eastland Mall
- The Bowling Alley
- The Dorm Halls

Intro to me
I am new at this whole blogging thing. I am currently a college student and am creating this blog for my English class. My rants will consist of many topics, depending on what I have seen, heard, or experienced in life throughout the rest of the semester. Like I said I am new to this whole blogging thing, so I hope you enjoy my thoughts.
